The word "Renassaince" means rebirth, which is what Italy basically went through during this time period. This was a time when art, music, and education flourished. New ideas such as realism began to emerge. Realism is when the artist makes his art seem so real that it begin to seem life-like. Some of the famous artist of the renassiance were Michelangelo and Brunelleschi. Painters and sculptors such as Donatello and Leonardo da Vinci were outstanding during the Renassiance. Even though the printing press was not developed in Europe until the 1400s, it still made writing much easier. Before, books were written by hand and only few copies were made, but then books were now easier to make and literacy developed more and more with the common people. Many writers such as William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet), Machiavelli (The Prince) had become noticed in lierature. The Renassiance was truly one of the most important time periods of history, which many ideas had developed.

The Renaissance period was when Italy went through a "rebirth". Humanism was also part of the Renaissance. People began to have secular views and focus more on personal accomplishments. Art began to become more realistic. Painters and sculptors such as da Vinci and Donatello would make their art look more realistic using realism. Michelangelo was also a famous painter during the Renaissance. The printing press was invented in the 1400's by Johannes Gutenburg, and the creation of books became much easier. Famous writers include Machiavelli, who wrote The Prince and William Shakespeare who wrote Julius Caesar. The Scientific Revolution and Protestant Reformation also occurred during the Renaissance. During the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther, who was a German monk, nailed a list of 95 theses to the Catholic Church's door, which was quickly distributed to everyone with the help of the printing press. His list of theses angered the Catholic Church, and was told to recant, but he refused. He was excommunicated and when he was sent to court, he still refused to take back his ideas, and Pope Leo X ordered Luther's arrest, but a nobleman protected him.

Renaissance was the time when goods, services, and trade began to increase. At that period, humanism began to form. Humanism is the focus on human behaivor, which impacted toward focuses of individuals. There were skilled painters and sculptors who made art more realistic, rather then the Midieval art which was flat and stiff. Johannes Gutenberg's printing helped many Renaissance writers, since it made writing easier. Some of these writer were: Machiavelli (who published a how-to book for how to be a good leader), Erasumus (famous man who counseled kings and popes), and William Shakespeare (famous European writer). In conclusion, more art, education, and writings emerged.

The Arts Stage a Comeback
-The word Renaissance mean "rebirth" and during this time period (1400's) the arts flourished the most. Paintings of the Renaissance weren't dull or flat. They demonstrated humanistic ideals to make the work of art be as real as possible. For example, Painter and sculptor, Leonardo da Vinci and Donatello created the human man figure as real as possible. Linear perspective was also applied to works of art where nearby objects were drawn bigger and far objects were drawn smaller in order to create a three dimensional quality. This technigue developed toward realism and was created by Tommaso Masaccio and Fillipo Brunelleschi. During this time period, artists also were influenced by the Catholic Church and included great palaces or cathedrals of Italy in their artworks. For example, Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The arts of the Renaissance flourished to the point where it spread northward and westward through much of western Europe.

The Renaissance led Europe out of it's backward, isolated, self-involved position. Europe was once again in demand for goods. The cities began to thrive again with business returning. Strongly improving and advancing was art. Art, as in the form of trade, architecture, and paintings. Powerful merchant families in city-states flourished. Painters became more focused on the reality of the human body, studying it in detail and learning all they could about the human anatomy. All art was based on how real they could looked, to make them seem three dimensional.
In Germany,a Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. This enabled books to be mass produced, instead of being handwritten by scribes. His invention led average citizens to learn to read because books could now be found readily available. Books turned from being a luxury to a source of entertainment.

The Arts Stage a Comeback
The word Renaissance literally translates to "rebirth", and that was very true for the art at the time. Before the Renaissance, art in the medieval times was very flat and stiff, and depicted human characteristics and ideals learned from the ancient people, making it very bland and dark. Once the Renaissance began to come around, artists (such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, the Van Eyck brothers, and Albrecht Durer) started painting realism, which, with careful use of light and shadow, would make the paintings appear more life-like. They also began to use a technique known as linear perspective, that allowed everything in the painting to appear more aligned and real. This was developed by artists Tommaso Masaccio and Fillipo Brunelleschi. Architecture was also affected by the Renaissance, and Italy was greatly influenced by Roman and Greek style, especially with the huge dome shapes of their Cathedrals.

Western Writers Finally Get Readers
During the mid 1400s, movable type was invented when Johannes Gutenberg created the printing press. This allowed books to be published far more efficiently. Since books were being written and published in the vernacular, the number of people that were able to read increased. Machiavelli wrote The Prince during this time. The Prince provided a template for all monarchs. Machiavelli believed that in order to be a successful monarch, one should be ruthless and feared rather than loved. He also stated that monarchy should be separate from the church. With the publication of this book and many others, reading became a pastime and a source of entertainment. In European countries, more specifically Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium and England, literature flourished. Techniques like satire and idealism were used in literature by authors like Erasmus and Sir Thomas More. Both of those men were Christian Humanists. Another humanist was Shakespeare, who also came into view during this time. He took humanism to the extreme. He focused on his characters' strengths and weaknesses with not only comedies and tragedies, but also with politics and mythology.

During the Renaissance, the ancient Roman and Greek writings were being reborn. Political writings were being written by people such as Castiglione and Machiavelli. Machiavelli was born in Florence in 1469. He wrote "The Prince", which was a book that gave advice to rulers. In it he expresses his beliefs of how people are selfish and corrupt. He stated that a ruler should be strong like a lion and clever like a fox. Castiglione wrote "the Courtier" and he gave advice on how to be an ideal man or woman. These writers helped the Renaissance flourish and influenced many people later on such as Hitler and Stalin.

People became more secular rather than totally religious. They began to foucus on life at the moment, and the form of the human. Art became more colorful and realistic during the renaissance. People began using perspective in their art, unlike medieval techniques. Michealangelo and Leonardo DaVinci are just two of many very famous artists of this time. European views began to change as well, leading us to the Protestant Reformation and Scientific Revolution. Martin Luther created the 95 theses protesting against the deeds of the catholic church, such as the selling of indulgences. His ideas spread and the Church was furious. Many ideas developed during the renaissance, therefore it was very important. today could never be the same if this period never happened.

Humanism: A bit more focus on the Here and Now

In medieval Europe the main focus was on the afterlife and redemption. it was thought that while on earth, the manin priority was that you must suffer in order to enter heaven. But, as Europeans researched ancient books, they realized that personal achievement and personal happiness formed the center of much of the literature and philosophy written in these ancient texts. the importance of achieving the perfect afterlife to living in the present.
This did not cause the Europeans to become hedonistic, which focused on pleasure to avoid pain. Instead, the catholic church and the importance of the afterliferemained the same. Although, europeans were attracted to ancient greek and Roman ideas of beauty and citizenship. As a result, they began to change their focus to celebrating their accomplishments in education, art and political areas. this new focus became known as humanism. it has a huge impact, because more focus was placed on the present life and of individuals that inturn led to individuality which surely led to the decrease in the power of institutions.

The Arts Stage a Comeback
The Renaissance was the time of art rebirth. A lot of money was spend on creating great works of art which was not so common since the Classic Civilizations of Greece and Rome. Renaissance art differed from the medieval style of art. In the medieval ages, people had been drawn out of proportion, in dark shades and just flat and dull. As the Renaissance came about, paintings and sculptures became more realistic, in light shades and with proper proportions. Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, and Michaelangelo were among the most brilliant artists of the Renaissance. New techniques were also developed such as linear perspective that made the distance agree with the side the object was presented. The comeback of Ancient Greek and Roman domes also impacted Renaissance architecture. The Catholic Church used the new art revival to their benefit on decorating palaces and cathedrals such as the Sistine Chapel. Renaissance artistic movement spread up and down from Italy to present day Germany and the Dutch who adopted the similar realistic painting styles. The north however used art for more religions reasons and their main contributions was literature, not art.

The Renaissance had started shortly after the Black Death had disspeared and the population in Europe had started to rise again. Europe was in need to for lost workers and recources, which in effect gave many people jobs and many people moving to cities. Renaissance means "rebirth" and that is exactly what Europe had went through during this time. During the Reniassance humanism had been introduced. Before there was any humanism, people had though that living this life on earth was just something to bear with till they get to heaven. Humanism put a whole new light on this perspective and people had started to think, maybe they should think about the here and now as opposed to what is going to happen in their afterlife. HUmanism showed a completely new perspective on the human body and its endeavors. Something else that was brought upon in the Renaissance was, a whole new type of art. In medieval times, humans were seen as flat and dull, but during the Reniassance with the new humanistic ideals, humans had been painted to look as real possible and blend in with the surroundings. Names like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, and Donatello had started to pop-up, as these were the most talented and famous artists during their time. Another thing that was introduced during the Renaissance was the printing press, invented by Johannes Gutenberg. This invention had changed the world of reading forever. Now making books wasn't such a complicated job that took months to just finish one book. Books had started to be mass produced which means illiteracy would start to vanish as common people were able to get their hands on copies of almost any book now. Literature had started to bloom as works from Sur Thomas More, Erasmus, and William Shakespeare had started to write their highly enticing pieces of works. These were all the high points of the Renaissance that helped Europe flourish into a vast well of knowledge on art, literature, and the human body. People had even started doubting the church, like Martin Luther who went against the church for selling indulgences, which was bassically a ticket to heaven and a means to get people's relatives out of purgatory or otherwise known as hell. Martin Luther was highly against it and showed his resentment towards the church by posting up the 95 theses which showed all the wrongs the church had done. He had argued that faith is all that is needed to get into heaven. Pope Leo X was outraged at this rebellion and immediately ordered Martin Luther to recant all that he had said and done. He had refused and was exommunicated. He was then ordered to be arrested but a nobleman from his hometown had protected him and he had continued to write. All these things had sparked a new way of thinking and had set the course of time to eventually lead to the Scientific revolution where people had started to question what the church had said. These are all the things that happened during the Renaissance.

During the Renaissancce, the population of Europe began to swell; goods and services began to increase. People moved to cities. Bankers, marchants, and traders emerged due to the icrease of global trade. Also, during this time, instead of focusing on salvation and afterife, people more focused on the present-day life, and humanism. Art techniques were also improved. The paintings were more realistic then the medieval ones which were flat and stiff. Linear perspective was also developed, which nearby objects were drawn bigger while far objects were drawn smaller. Literature was improved due to the developnment of printing press. Because of that, there were more books being produced, which flourished the industry of papermaker. Also, more books led to more literate and educated people.

The renaissance on Europe was basically a rebirth. This was a time when Greek and Roman writings were brought back. This was also a big time for humanism. This basically meant that people worried less about the after life, and worried about the life they had on earth. This was also the time when the printing press was created. This printing press made books produced faster and cheaper. This meant that a lot more of the population became educated. A middle class also began to emerge. This new middle class consisted of bankers, middlemen, and merchant, and other middle class professions. There were many advancements that occured during the Renaissance.

Renaissance means rebirth and europe went through exactly that as it became more populated and grew economically. Humanism was introduced by Petrarch. humanism started to deal more with people and nature and their way of life instead of the church and the gothic style. artists moved away from dark and gloomy paintings and created new life in their works by giving objects and people a 3D appearance instead of a flat and dull one. The Renaissance also focused on realistic, perspective, and detailed paintings. One of the very famous paintings was the Mona Lisa, which was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. the catholic church also started to florify their churches by using artists like Michalangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel. This is when churches started to become more and more currupt because they focused more on the economic and political perspective of their ways instead of the religious one.

The Renaissance was an extremely important time in historty. It was a Rebirth of education and learning. A middle class arose that consisted of traders, merchants and bankers which made italy money. With this money they were able to spend time recapturing the past. People relied less on the church and focused more on the individual, this new way of thought is known as humanism. Men such as Leonardo Da Vinchi were renaissance men because they painted new forms of art and studied the human body and studied new inventions. This was a very important change in history. During the Renaissance, population rose once again, after its decline during the Black Plague. During this time period, everything began to be humanistic. The way people lived was no longer surrounded by the Church and was more focused on what people believed. They also took the ideas of Roman and Greek architecture. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and many more artists put a great amount of influence into the Renaissance. The Medici Family was patrons of the arts. The theme of art had changed drastically. There were writers that had an influence such as William Shakespeare. This was a time when the Church was losing a lot of its power, and there was a Protestant Reformation taking place.
