The treaty of Versailles

This treaty greatly effected Germany for a long period of time. Most countries blamed Germany for the start of WWI and wanted vengeance.
From the treaty, Germany lost its colonies in Africa and the Pacific , they could not produce weapons, they were limited to no more than 100,000 soldiers with no tanks ,air force, navy, ect.. and they owed 33 billion dollars in reparation .

Since many of the European nations had ties with the rest of the world resulted in more than 40 countries in the middle of the war. The United States were the first to declare their neutrality and focus on isolationism, or their own affairs and not of others. Russia lost many casualties during the war and therefore suffered greatly after the end. World War I also pushed the women's suffrage movement because women had to take up the men's jobs and wanted to equality. Germany and the Central powers finally gave up on November 11, 1918 and the war followed many forceful consequences on their behalf which included their sole blame for the war and other intact rules that left Germany with a staggering economy. This treaty greatly pushed Germany on the toll of revenge and revved up World War II for Adolf Hitler.

Many things contributed to WWI. Things like the assassination of the Archduke of Austria, alliances, the sinking of Lusitania and many other things caused WWI. The U.S. got involved when the Lusitania sank, killing 128 Americans. The U.S. was also angry when three American ships sank due to Germany's "unrestricted submarine warfare". The final straw was when England intercepted the Zimmerman Note, a telegram that Germany sent to Mexico saying that if Mexico helps them attack the U.S., they will help Mexico get back their lost land. The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty written to greatly punish Germany. In it, they stated that Germany could not have more than 100,000 soldiers, no tanks, no submarines, no air force, and they were to lose all their colonies in Africa and the Pacific. They also owed 33 billion pounds in reparation.

Shifting Alliances: A Prewar Tally of European Countries

- European countries started forming alliances so that their power would be more stable. Germany and France had been enemies since the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 and because of this, plus the fact that Germany didn't want to lose their power and be defeated by France,an alliance was formed. During the 1880s, Otto von Bismarck created what was know as the Triple Alliance that consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. Otto von Bismarck also had an alliance or agreement with Russia and he wanted to keep it that way, but when he was resigned from office in 1890 by William II the agreemnet between Russia and Bismarck was lost. And since Russia wasn't part of any alliance any more, France took the chance to make Russia join them so that their power would be more stable than it was before. This alliance known as the Franco-Russo alliance helped keep Germany in check. By 1907 Britain joinned or was part of Russia and France and a new alliance came into place which was known as the Triple Entente. During this time period, every country started planning attacks and strategies in case of a war which they knew was coming there way any time soon. For example Germany wanted the war to come about already so they devised the Schlieffen Plan. The Schlieffen Plan devised of Germany attacking France through Belgium which was a neutral state. Everyone was just waiting for the war, World War I to come about and thats why all the alliances and war plans were being created.

World War I began with suspicions from germany. Since they were enemies of France, they made an alliance with countries such as Austria-Hungary and Italy (Who will soon become neutral and let the Ottaman Empire take it's place). France made alliances with Russia, and Britain. The spark that actually began the war was when the archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were visiting Sarajevo and were assassinated by Gavrilo Princep. The result of this was that, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Russia got involved because it was allies with Serbia. Then France, Germany, and the Ottaman Empire came in. Britain did not get involved until Germany called for a an attack into France through belgium. There were two causes of how the U.S had gotten involved. One cause was that the germans were attacked the Lustania, which had about 100 americans on that ship. Another reason was the zimmerman telegram. The telegram was to the mexicans from the germans telling them if they joined the war, they wil lregain territory that it had lost in the past from the Americans. The Treaty of Versailles was the offical end to the war. This treaty stated that Germany had to pay for war reparations, give up territory, and lessen their army.
The league of nations was also created to keep the peace.

Years before World War I occurred, alliances formed between European nations. The Triple Alliance was established between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Also formed, was the Triple Entente, which was a friendly agreement signed by Britain, France, and Russia. They all anticipated the fact that a war was going to break out in the near future. The Schlieffen Plan was written in Germany years beforehand.
Many elements caused the war to start, but the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand set the war off with a bang, literally. Gavrilo Princip, a young Serbian shot and killed the Archduke and his wife. Many countries, like the United States for example, were forced into this war because of their promises to protect their allies who were involved. Other countries declared neutrality but still ended up in the war anyways. In the end, Germany and the Central Powers admitted defeat. 8.5 million soldiers, and millions of civilians died in the 4 years of this war. The results of it were rising prices in goods in all countries to pay their war debts, women gaining social power, and an attempt at peace.
The Treaty of Versailles was humiliating for Germans and it led to their revenge in WWII with the rise of their dictator Hitler. A council called the League of Nations was created in efforts of keeping peace between nations to avoid more outbreaks of war. It was a great idea that no one wanted to get involved in.

LEAGUE OF NATIONS: CAN'T WE ALL JUST ALL GET ALONG.

AT VERSAILLES PRESIDENT WILSON WAS THE MEDIATOR. HE WISHED THAT THE POST WAR TREATIES WOULD BE A SUITABLE TIME TO SET UP AND FORM INTERNATIONAL LAWS ANS ACCEPTED STANDARDS OF UPRIGHTNESS IN INTERNATIONAL BEHAVIOR. THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, WHICH WAS COMPPRISED OF A JOINT COUNCIL OF NATIONS WAS CREATED AS A RESULT OF PRESIDENT WILSON'S FOURTEEN POINT SPEECH. THE LEADERS OF VERSAILLES, AGREED IN THE BASIC DOCTRINE, AND FORMED THE ORGANIZATION TO PROTECT THE PEACE AND INSTITUTE HUMANITARIAN GOALS, BUT AS TIME WENT ON, MAN REFUSED TO DO SO. ENGLAND AND FRNACE WERE NOT ENTHUSIASTIC, WHILE GERMANY AND RUSSIA WERE NOT SURE AT FIRST, BUT LATER JOINED THE U.S., OUTRIGHTLY REJECTED IT WHICH WAS A HUGE EMBARASSMENT FOR WILSON, WHO COULDN'T CONVIENCE THE U.S. CONGRESS, THAT THE LEAGUE WAS A SMALL LEAP TOWARDS LASTING PEACE.

World War I was sparked by many different causes. Alliances, imperialism, nationalism, militarism and anarchy all contributed to the start of this Great War. However, the immediate cause was the assasination of the Archduke, Ferdinand, and his wife, Sophia, by a member of the Black hand named Gavrilo Princep. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, causing Russia to join the war. France, Britian, and Italy got pulled into the war due to alliances. The United States decided to stay neutral but after the sinking of the Luisitania, a British passenger ship and sister the the famous Titanic, and the Zimmerman Telegram which stated that Germany would help Mexico regain the land they lost to the US if they join the war, the United States decided to join the war. Many new technology was developed during this period due to the war. Trench warfare, tanks, submarine warfare, airplanes, and machine guns were invented killing millions. The US helped defeat Germnay, the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary ending the war. The Treaty of Versailles was signed later on setting harsh clause on Germany.

USA entered world war 1 after Lusitania sank killing 128 Americans. This wasn't the only reason for the Americans for entering the war. Three other ships also sank because of Germany's so called unrestricted submarine warfare. After many long years of battling, world war 1 finally came to an end. and the treaty of Versailles was also produced. It stated that Germany had to pay money that over 30 billion dollars to repair for the damage that was caused by them and that they couldnt have an army of more than 100,000 soldiers.

There was no single reason for the Americans for entering the war Alliances, sinking of four ships and the lives that were lost in these sinking's caused a building anger. The war caused the death of thousands of people and left many families in mourning for their loved ones. Finally when the sun has set and the war had ended, Germany was punished greatly for their deeds. After signing the treaty of Versailles, Germany had to pay more than 33 billion dollar s for the damage caused by them and had to have a limited army of just 100,000 soldiers and the army excluded tanks, navy, and air force. This humiliation toward Germany caused a fire that finally broke out in world war 2.

World War I had been anticipated before it even began. After the Triple Alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy broke and the Triple Entente formed, the possibility of the war was almost definate. The real cause of the war however, was because of one event that occured, the killing of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. After this the declaration of wars started between Austria-Hungary, Russia and Serbia, but soon France, Germany, Italy and Britain also joined. Soon the Schlieffen Plan, that had been planned even before the war started, had come into play. This caused the Central Power to form into a huge alliance. On the other side, the Allies group was also formed against them.
Through all this chaos, the US had managed to stay neutral. This was up until they caught a telegram known as the Zimmerman telegram. This note had set off Americans to join the Allies simply because it had said that Mexicans would try to take over their land once again that was lost during a previous war.
Finally, the Central Powers had given up on November 11th, 1918 after having eight & a half million deaths of soldiers and had changed the nations involved forever.
However, the ending of this war wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty had blamed the whole war solely on Germany and was forcing them to pay all the reperations that were needed from the war and only allowed them to have 100,000 soldiers and almost no weapons to attack. Germany had no say in this because in the end, they had been forced to sign the treaty.

The Russian Revolution: Czar Out, Lenin In

Russia was at war with the world largest army and it was suffering terribly. Desperate need of supplies and substance was at hand and so in February 1917, Czar Nicholas was forced to give up his power ending the Romanov Dynasty. Alexander Kerensky came to power and established a provisional government so society would not break into complete chaos."It was ineffectual, in part because it shared power with the local council, called soviets, which represented the interests of workers, peasants, and soldiers. The working class was fed up with the war, but the government continued to fights in hopes of securing Russia's borders and becoming a liberal democracy. Vladimir Lenin of the socialist party, now called the Bolsheviks, issued the April Theses. The April Theses called for peace, land for peasants, and power to the soviets. Lenin came to power, taking Russia from World War I with the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Because of it, a large piece of Western Russia went to Germany. The Soviet Union was formed by the Baltic Republics such as the Ukraine and Siberia, and revolts soon began. To stop the revolts the Bolsheviks created the Red Army under the command of Leon Trotsky. By 1918 it defeated the counterrevolutionaries. The Counterrevolution made the distrust between the Marxist state and the west stronger, and The Bolsheviks had a lot of power being in control of the Red Army.

More than 40 countries were involved in WWI. The United States declared neutrality and focused on isolationism. Russia lost many casulaties in the war. The Treaty of Versailles brought and end to the war. It punished Germany and required it to pay for war reparations release territory and downsize the military. Austria-Hungary was divided into separate nations. The League of Nations was formed to help european nations to get along. Persident wilson established the league but the US wasn't a part of it. We openly rejected the League which was an embarassment for our president.
The war left Germany with a stagering economy. This led to later revenge on Germany's part.

There were many causes of World War I, and reasons why it started.
One of the main reasons of starting World War I was the assassination of Archduke Franz and his wife, since rivalry of many nations started to form. From then, many other countries started to join the war. The United States joined WWI because of sinking of The Lusitania, which killed over 100 Americans on board, and because of Zimmerman Telegram, which stated that Mexico had to join German side if they want to get their land lost in Mexican-American war. At the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was blamed for the war, which angried Germany and led to rise of Adolf Hitler. The League of Nations was a council of nations which offered peace to the countries. During the Russian Revolution, the Czar abdicated his throne, and Lenin became leader of the new communist party. He issued April Theses, which was result of peace, land for peasants, and power to soviets. Lastly, the Ottoman Empire ended, and the new country, Turkey, became more a western nation then Muslim.

Many believe that the World War one began at the hands of the Germans, Although many others know for a fact that it began because of multiple reasons, and it involved many other countries and not just germany. When World war one first began, the united states of america was not involved. The united states was known to be neutral. The united states got involved because of the german submarine warfare. The submarines had sunk three ships that belonged to the united states, these ships include the sister ship of the famous Titanic ship. when the german submarines took down Lusitania (sister ship of Titanic), 120+ americans died in that ship along with many other people, and this is said to be the main reason the united states of america got involved in the World War one

Since the Europeans had colonies with most of the world, the start of the war was from a Serbian nationalist. After that, over 40 countries were involved in the war. The United States was not involved in the war at first, being how they wanted to take care of there own problems with the country itself. But soon after, a German submarine sank the 'The Lusitania' which was a British passenger liner. This killed more than 100 Americans. A year later Germany tried to cut off all shipments to Britain, including an United States merchant ship. This adding fuel to the fire & soon led the United States to get involved with the war.
The treaty of Versailles was to bring a final end to World War I. It mostly had guidelines which were meant for Germany. Some were: They must pay reparations, give up their territory & lower its military. The treaty also divided Austria-Hungary into separate nations & also created new nations. The treaty also stated not to use President Wilson's fourteen points. However, the Allies did not like Wilson's proposal, so the victors of the war decided to blame the war on Germany & forced Germany to sign a treaty over the agreement of the United States.
The league of nations was formed from President Wilson's fourteen points, being how they wanted to have a joint council of nations also known as the league of nations. This was to help keep the peace within the nations.

There were many things that led up to WW1. One thing was that a Serbian was set out to kill Austria's archduke, and his wife. This caused Austra-Hungry to delcare War on Serbia on July 28,1914. Russia then joins Serbia's side. Then Germany declares war on Russia on August 1, 1914. Germany also declared war on France 2 days later. Many new alliances were formed during this war. Germany formed a dual alliance with Austria-Hungry in 1879. Germany then formed the triple alliance when Italy joined in 1882. Germany wanted to isolate France, and soon allied with Russia.Germans forced Frane to find new allies. In 1907 Great Britain joined Russia, and France. The United States enters the war when the zimmerman telegram is sent, and it states that if germany would help Mexico regain the lands that they lost to the U.S, if Mexicans would join the war. In March 1917 Russia withdraws from the war. The treaty of Versallies gets signed. This treaty states that germany had to pay 33 billion dollars in reparations. Germany gets limited on their army, no more than 100,000 soldiers, no tanks, air force, navy, and no submarines. Germany also could not manufacture weapons. The war guilt is placed upon Germany. The League of Nations formed, and Germany was not able to join. This treaty was the beginning of WW2.

It all started when empires made alliances with one another. There was the Triple Alliance which was composed of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy in the 1880s. Then came about The Triple Entente composed of France and Russia and by 1970, Britain as well. Alliances caused tension within Europe leading to distrust amongst each other.
In the Balkans, Austria-Hungary and Serbia were fighting for territories such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. This created hatred between the two. In 1914, the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary visited the capital of Bosnia. During his visit he and his wife was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist. Austria-Hungary took this as a threat and declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914. Due to the alliances made prior to the war, other countries joined, and soon leading to a world war.
The reasons why the United States joined the war was due two main reasons. The first reason was the destruction of the Lusitania caused by a German attack. The Lusitania was a British ship that had aboard over 100 Americans. Even after the Germans learned that they have offended a neutral force, they continued to attack all British ships, whether the had aboard Americans or not. This was called unrestricted submarine warfare.
Later, a message that the British intercepted urged the United States to join the war. It was known as the Zimmerman telegram, a message sent by the Germans to Mexico. The Germans tried to negotiate with Mexico by tempting them with the land that was lost to the US. The US could not stand staying neutral anymore, and on April 2, 1917, America sided with the Allies.
About a year later, the Central Powers surrendered to the Allies. The Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, ending the 5 year long war. It was a treaty to mainly punish the German for starting the war. This treaty humiliated the Germans and for years they yearned for revenge.

In order for Europe not to encounter any future problems, Otto von Bismarck negotiated with Germany, Austrai-Hungary, and Italy to create an alliance, so the Triple Alliance was born. In addition to that, he had a pact with Russia and was deffinitely aiming to not let Europe encounter any upcoming problems. Then William II had came into power and completely destroyed all of Bismarck's hard work. He had completely ignored Russia, which put Russia on the list for friends. France jumped at the chance to make an alliance, and later Britain had joined the alliance known as the Tripe Entente. Both the Triple Entente and Tripe Alliance were anticipating upcoming wars and already making battle plans before any war had even started, for example the Schlieffen Plan that was made by Germany to go throw a neutral country, Belgium, and attack France. Then just a few decades later, the spark for WWI had set off. Archduke Frans Ferdinand of Austrie-Hungary and his wife were killed while visiting Sarajevo. Austrai-Hungary had declasred war on Serbia. Russia who was allied with Serbia declared war on Austrai-Hungary. Of course since Russia was part of the Triple Entente, Britain and France had to join in, and since Austria-Hungary was part of the Triple Alliance, Germany and Italy had to join in. Britain was a bit reluctant to join in at first, but after Germany deployed the Schlieffen Pland and raided through Belgium, a neutral country, Britain had joined to protect France. Italy although squeezed it's way out of its obligations to ally with Germany and Austria-Hungary, but the Ottoman Empire took its place, which formed a new alliance called the Central Powers. What had just started out to be a simple assasination, had turned into a worldwide war which included more than 40 countries in it. Itally eventually joined into the war too, but on the side of the Allies. America had first decided not to join in, but after Germany had sunk The Lusitania with submarines, continued to attack other ships, and seeing the threats that were from the Zimmerman telegram, America had immediately joined in with Alliance. This gave a huge advantage to The Alliance, since all these countries had been fighting for 2-3 years now, and now suddenly a great and powerful nation joins in and are fresh puts a great deal of pressure on the Central Powers. Eventually Germany and the Central Powers had gave up on November 11, 1918. There were many causualties, a staggering 8.5 million soldiers were killed, untold million of civillians had been killed as well. In 1919, the Treaty of Versailles had brought WWI to an official end. It was epsecially harsh against Germany who had to pay war reparation and make their military smaller. This had dealt wounds to Germanies pride, which would later cause the rise to Adolf Hitler.

A big part of World War I was the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty did no good for Germany. They lost all their land from Alsace-Lorraine to France. They were no longer allowed to create their own weapons. They were also limited to 100,000 soldiers. They were not allowed to have a navy or air force, along with no tanks, or machine weapons. They would also have to pay 33 billion dollars back in reparations over a 30 year period.
