Peter The Great was a man who believed he ahd to westernize Russia. He went to the west and brought ideas, along with scientists, artists, and many more to change Russia. He had made women dress in Western clothing and forced men to shave their beards to seem more westernized. He had created the new city, which was his capital and also near the Blatic Sea. It was called St. Petersburg. He had also turned serfs into slaves to promote hard labor.

Catharine the Great was also a westernizer. She had encouraged serfdom more than ever, and limited the growth of the merchant class. She had conquered many lands such as Poland and areas around the Black sea. She was also into deep trouble when serfs were revolting against her. Yet, she was an enlightened Despot. She had brought increased the power of many nobles and lord during her reign.

Peter the Great ruled from 1682 through 1725. He wanted to westernize Russia, he even built the first Russian navy and founded St Petersburg as the new capital. People were forced to dress more western. Men were to shave their beards and head. He also brought Russians to the Western and educators from the west to Russia.

Catherine the Great ruled from 1762 to 1796. More elightened policies of education and western culture were implemented. Catherine forced serfdom and limited the growth of the merchant class. She expanded Russia's territory gaining Poland and Siberia.

Peter the Great ruled from 1682-1725 in Russia. He belived completley in westernization and therefore that is how he ruled Russia. He built Russia's firts navy, abd he moved the capital to St. Petersburg. In the capital, many wetern europeans were living in order to help westernize the country. all that was done during Peter's ruling was to create Russia to be more like that of a western european country.
Catherine the Great ruled from 1762-1796. She established more "enlightened" ways of living in addition to westernization of Russia. Russia still suffered somewhat though. She enforced repressive serfdom and limited the growth of the merchant class which repressed trading. Catherine gained more territory westward such as Poland and territory in the Black Sea.this allowed for Russia to gain access of the Mediterranean southward and westward which was very important for the development of Russia.

Peter the Great ruled from 1682-1725. He was very focused on westernizing Russia. St. Petersburg was the home to European specialists who were recruited to westernize Russia. Nobles and noblewomen had to adapt to European dressage. The laborious task of building the city was accomplished by using serfs turned slaves.
Catherine the Great ruled from 1762-1796. She was an enlightened despot, who focused on westernizing Russia than paying attention to the internal affairs of Russia. Russia suffered under her, because she enforced repressive serfdom and limited growth of the merchants. She focused on expansion which gave Russia access to the Mediterranean Sea.

They both put Russia in a position for contact with the rest of the world. Gaining access to warm bodies of water was their goal so they could engage and emulate the West.

When Peter the Great came to rule Russia, he was persuaded that he needed to make Russia westernized. So, he founded St. Petersburg on the Baltic Sea and made it his capital. Many skilled people from western Europe, like engineers, architects, scientists, etc. started to live in the new capital. Russians started to become more European. Serfs, who were turned into slaves did most of the work, building St. Petersburg.

Catherine the Great ruled from 1762
to 1796. She continued to make enlightened policies of education and western culture. She limited the growth of merchant class, which was bad for Russia at that point. Catherine the Great gained land in Poland, and territory on Black Sea. The result of this was Russia's access to Mediterranean Sea.

Peter the Great, ruled from 1682 to 1725, and he succeeded at Westernizing Russia. he built russias first navy, founded St.Petersburg as the capital, and recruited many western European scholars and educators to westernize russia. men and women of nobility had to identify themselves in western dress and the serfs were soon turned to slaves as the land mass of russia took a toll on the workers.

Catherine the Great, ruled from 1762 to 1796, considered herself an enlightened despot and implemented more western education and policies into russia. nontheless, she harshly enforced serfdom and limited the merchant class and expanded westward by gaiing Poland and the territory of the Baltic sea.
They are both important because they engaged russia with the west and the rest of the wrold and by the 18th century, russia was at a much better and forward position than it had been those backward years due to the mongols. unlike china and japan, the russians welcomed the western culture into their world.

Peter the Great ruled from the years 1682 to 1725. His time as ruler was focused primarily on westernizing Russia, as he loved the western culture. To do this, he broughy back many ideas from the west, including architects, scientists, and artists. He forced men and women to dress in more western clothing, and made men cut off their beards, because it was a very Mongolian trait to have. He also did such things as building Russia's first navy, and had founded St. Petersburg (on the Baltic Sea) as Russia's new capital. He also turned all the serfs into slaves.

Catherin the Great ruled Russia from 1762 to 1796. She, like Peter the Great, appreciated the Western culture and tried to worked on westernizing Russia, as well. She believed in serfdom and limited the growth of the merchant class. She also focused on continuing expansion toward the west, which allowed Russia access to the Mediterranean Sea.

Peter the Great, rules from 1682 to 1725. He wanted to westernize Russia. He built Russia's first navy and founded st.petersburg in the Baltic Sea, and this became the new capital. St.Petersburg was the home to many western European engineers, scientists, architects, and artists who were specifically chosen to help westernize Russia. Women of mobility were forced to dress in western clothing. Men had to shave their beards and most of the labor of building this great new city was accomplished by the serfs turned slaves.

Catherine the great, ruled from 1762-1766 and, she implemented policies of education and the western culture. Although, Russia suffered because she strictly enforced repressive serfdom and limited the growth of the merchant class. She continued to be vwery aggressive toward terrotorial expansion, gaining Poland and most importantly the territiory on the Black sea. This ensured Russia's access to the mediterranean to it's south and west.

Peter the Great was a born Russian. But his ideas differed from the rulers who reigned before him. He is most famous for westernizing Russia. He made women and men wear western clothing and asked people to shave their beards off as a way of displaying their western looks. He is also the reason for the city St. Petersburg. It was the new Capital of Russia and was located near Baltic sea.
Catherine the Great also followed the idea of westernization. She was obsessed with conquering new lands and expanding Russia. Distracted with expansion, she did not notice the growing serf rebellions. She increased the Nobles powers and limited the growth of the merchants. During her reign she captured Poland and Siberia.

peter the great was a big 'westernizer'. he built russias first navy, and founded the city of st. petersburg. that city became the home to many westerners. he forced men to shave their beards [which was a big thing, due to the fact that russians had had beards, due to the mongols, for centuries previously], and forced har labor among serfs and peasants.

catherine the great was yet another 'westernizer'. she enforced serfdom & limited the growth of the merchant class. she also continuned the aggressive expansion towards the west.

Peter the Great rules between 1682-1725 and was known as the Greatest Russian Emperor. He westernized Russia by sending Russians to be educated in the west. He also changed Russian culture making officials shave their beards to look more like the Europeans and wear Western clothes. Peter the great made St. Petersburg the new capital, and organized the first navy in Russia. He also promoted hard labor for the serfs making them very similar to slaves.

Catherine The great became empress in 1762 after overthrowing her husband. She was also known as an enlightened despot who took prive in westernizing Russia. She was known for Russia's great expansion into Siberia, Alaska, and Poland.
She also increased the power of the landlords and their nobility over the serfs, making the serfs have even less power.

Peter the great and Catherine the great were both very different from the other rulers of Russia in the past. Although it is Peter the great that is known for westernizing russia, both Peter and Catherine were westernizers. Peter the great went to western europe in disguise and brought back western idea to Russia. He made people act, dress and do everything like the western europeans. Catherine the great was so very busy with the westernizing and expanding during her time that hadn't realized her people (serfs) rebelling, and all she did was give more power to the nobles thinking it would keep the serfs under control.

Peter the Great westernized Russia. He continued an absolute monarchy, and encourged serfdom.

Catherine the Great came to power after she had Boyars help her overthrow her husband Peter the 3rd. Catherine the Great's main accomplishement was expanding Russia into Siberia, Alaska, and Poland. She was a selective westernizer.
